Best PS4 games to look forward

Sony put PS4 games before PS4 console when it officially announced the successor to the PS3 earlier this year, and Xbox One-baiting aside took the opportunity to unleash another batch of titles during its E3 2013 press conference.

Serving up a mix of its most successful franchises with a smattering of original games, Sony is hoping it can show off the capabilities of the PS4 when it launches, whether it’s the extra processing power, the cloud gaming capabilities or the new DualShock 4 controller.

For the loyal fans who plan to stick with the Sony in the next generation console battle and the Xbox One boycotters, these are the PlayStation 4 games you need to keep an eye out for when the console is released later this year.

1. DriveClub

Having already flexed its driving game muscles with World Rally Championship series (PS2) and the Motorstorm Series (PS3), DriveClub Evolution Studios is enters the PS4 fray with a social racing game that could be Sony’s answer to Forza. Stunning next generation visuals aside, the gameplay centers around driving for a team completing challenges like ‘drift-offs’ to earn points and online bragging rights. It’s apparently been 10 years in the works so we are expecting big things.

2. Killzone 4: Shadow Fall

Confirmed as a PS4 launch title, the gritty sci-fi shooter places you behind enemy lines with a vast array of cutting-edge weaponry to complete your missions in a typically brutal and blood-stained fashion. Renowned for making spectacular looking worlds to wreak havoc in, Guerrila Games has decided to open up the environments giving you a wider area to explore and has embraced the PS4 DualShock 4 touchpad to help you out in the heat of the battle.

3. InFamous: Second Son

One of the many games that helped define the PS3, Sucker Punch is hoping to have similar success on the PS4 delving back into the open world superhero domain for a third time. Rebelling against the oppressive Department of Unified Protection (DUP) is protagonist Delsin Rowe who replaces Cole McGrath, swapping electricity for smoke as the fuel for his super power. It is inFAMOUS with greater visuals in a world where nothing is safe from being destroyed into millions of little pieces.

4. Destiny - First Look at Bungie's epic new shooter

Halo-makers Bungie will be showing off its first person shooter skills on a Sony console for the very first time giving PlayStation lovers a sense of what they missed out on with its iconic sci-fi shooter on the Xbox 360.  With a mix of sandbox elements and a focus on embracing the social world to progress throughout, there will be plenty to explore and destroy as you attempt to save humanity. It’s the first of a series of games based in the Destiny universe and we’re hoping for a strong start from Bungie for its PS4 debut.

5. Call of Duty: Ghosts

The CoD that will forever be known as the one with the dog. Canine companion aside, Activision is planning to continue the cinematic, Holyywood theme with its latest military shooter instalment for the PS4. Set in the near future where hostile forces are occupying the US, your task is a simple one, to reclaim the country.  Playing one of two brothers, Ghosts takes the battle underwater and into war torn villages with a new engine making environments and animations more appealing than they have ever done on the current gen Sony console.

6. Watch Dogs

It was one of the most talked about games at E3 2012 and at this year’s show it's been no different as Ubisoft revealed more details about Aiden Pierce and his hacking escapades around Chicago. We now know that breaking into the CityOS systems will play a major part of completing missions and objectives in an open world where everyone is susceptible to being compromised. There’s a single campaign mode and multiplayer to play through in what is expected to be a standout game for the PS4.
