With the PS4 launch not yet a distant memory, we've taken a
tour of the PlayStation Network to find out which games you need for your PS3,
PS Vita or brand new Sony box.
PlayStation owners are lucky to have such a vast amount of
games available on the PlayStation Store, so sometimes it's helpful to have
someone to do the trawling for you.
We've picked ten of our favourites from PSN for you to
choose from, but of course there are some older favourites we've missed out
like Flower, to keep things fresh.
Hopefully, we've been helpful, but if there's a great game
we've missed out, please feel free to add it in the comments below.
Contrast
Contrast was one of the first titles to be made available
for the PS4 with a PlayStation Plus subscription. The game is set in a 1920s
dreamscape, where you must shift between the physical 3D world and the 2D
shadow world.
You play as Dawn, the imaginary friend of a little girl
named Didi and solve increasingly difficult puzzles as you traverse a world full of circus
performers, magic and cabaret.
It’s free for anyone wielding a PlayStation Plus account for
PS4, but on the PS3 it will set you back £11.99. It’s certainly worth every
penny.
Price: £12.79 or Free with PlayStation Plus, £11.99 for PS3

Minecraft: PlayStation 3 Edition
After the Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition was released in May,
there was great anticipation for the release of a PlayStation version of the
block-building creation game. Finally, on December 18, developer Mojang answered
our prayers.
However, currently there’s only a PS3 edition of Minecraft
available, with PS4 and PS Vita versions of the game in the works for launch
sometime in the near(ish) future.
For anyone who isn’t familiar with the blocky Minecraft
world, you are able to build your own world out of coloured blocks, defend
those creations against enemies and generally explore.
The Xbox 360 edition stayed in the top 10 of the UK All
Format Gaming Charts for months, so the PS3 version is worth a look.

Doki Doki Universe
This cross-platform adventure game is one of the last to
arrive in 2013, and is quite the unusual journey for the average PlayStation
gamer.
You play as a robot named QT3 who must travel around and
prove his humanity before being
put on the scrapheap to become a little metal
cube. There’s a full cast of quirky characters to interact with and you’ll need
to solve quizzes in order to prove you actually have a personality and discover
more about QT3.
It’s definitely a unique game, with a touch of Scribblenauts
about it too, but certainly worth a download.

War Thunder
If you’re a fan of World War 2 games, War Thunder is a
fantastic addition to your PS4 games library. It’s an MMO combat game where
you’ll play using WWII military aviation, armoured vehicles, and specialised
fleets.
You’ll need to master the seas and the sky with combat
taking place on land, water and in the air and you’ll be playing against Xbox
One gamers too.
Let the battle of the next-gen consoles commence.

Tiny Brains
You'll need some mates to help you escape from the mad
scientist’s lab in Tiny Brains. This puzzler sees you play as one of four furry
lab animals with unique super powers, which they must combine to solve
physics-based puzzles.
All the puzzles can be solved in a number of ways, depending
on which critters you have in your arsenal, and which way you approach the
conundrum too.
This is a great game for new PS4 owners to make some friends
on the PlayStation Network.

PixelJunk Eden
PixelJunk Eden will see you swinging round rock and plant
formations to gather pollen. You’ll need this to grow new plants to help you
explore the various gardens and locate the coveted "Spectra".
The techno soundtrack and trippy graphics combine to make a
platformer unlike any other on PSN.
You can either play on your own, or co-op with up to two of
your friends, which is great fun.

The Walking Dead: Season 2
Several months lie between the first and second season of
the Walking Dead, and Clementine is still searching for safety in a world
plagued by the undead apocalypse.
The original Walking Dead: Season 1 was awarded Game of the
Year 2013, and the follow on is just as good. Currently, only the first episode
of Season 2 is available, but any decisions you made in Season 1 and Walking
Dead: 400 Days will affect your Walking Dead experience.
Price: £3.99 or £15.99 for the full Walking Dead: Season 2

Tokyo Jungle
Originally released at the end of 2012, Tokyo Jungle is
still worth having on your PS3. The humans are instinct and so the animals are
roaming free on the streets of Tokyo after escaping from the zoo.
You can play as a wide variety of creatures, and you’ll need
to hunt, eat and mate to stay alive in the cutthroat urban wilderness. With
each level of offspring, your skills and abilities will increase and you can
also get upgrades by adorning your animals with different items of clothing.
With offline, two-player co-op modes available too, you can
team up with a buddy to enhance your Tokyo Jungle experience further.

The Unfinished Swan
The Unfinished Swan’s world is all white, initially, until
you come along and splat it with black paint to reveal all its secret contents.
You’re on the hunt for a runaway swan and to find out
where’s he’s run off to, and who built the abandoned world, you’ll need to
discover new areas and solve puzzles.
The game is either playable using your basic DualShock 3
controller, or you can whip out you PlayStation Eye camera and PlayStation Move
controller instead.

Journey
If you’ve played and enjoyed That Game Company’s other PSN
games like Flower and Flow, you have to download Journey right now - if you
haven’t already.
The concept of the game sounds bizarre, as you’ll be
trekking to the top of a mountain gathering pieces of magical scarf to help
lift you to new heights.
Trust us, the score is just stunning and the simple, elegant
graphics will often enthral you. Part of the attraction of Journey is that
other players will silently join you on your travels to the mountaintop, taking
in the desert scenery with you as you glide through the air.
Journey truly is one of the best gaming experiences to enjoy
on PS3.
